F&M Faculty Promotions Recognize Excellence
This summer, four Franklin & Marshall faculty members received promotions and seven earned endowed chair appointments in recognition of their distinctive scholarship, dedicated teaching, and commitment to the College.
鈥淥ur faculty are at the core of what makes F&M extraordinary,鈥 said Sunita Gupta Kramer '92, provost and dean of the faculty. 鈥淭hese promotions reflect not only individual achievement, but also the collective excellence that defines our community of teacher-scholars.鈥
鈥淎s an alumna, it is especially meaningful to celebrate the faculty whose work continues to make F&M such an extraordinary place of learning,鈥 said Kramer, who began her responsibilities July 1 after a nationwide search.
Tenure and Full Professorship Appointments
A tenured post is an indefinite academic appointment professors earn through a thorough vetting process. Typically, tenure and full professorship are only earned after a sustained record of exemplary teaching and scholarship.
Sarah Tasker, associate professor of chemistry, has earned tenure and promotion to associate professor.
Three tenured faculty members have been promoted to full professor:
- Pablo Jenik, professor of biology
- Jerome Hodos, professor of sociology, program chair of international studies
- Christine Piro, professor of chemistry, Bonchek College House don
Endowed Chair Appointments
An endowed chair is a prestigious faculty position permanently funded by a private source. The following professors have earned endowed chair appointments.
- Zachary Biles, professor of classics
John W. Wetzel, Esq., Professor of Classics
Started in 1951 from the estate of John W. Wetzel
- Edward Fenlon, professor of chemistry
William G. & Elizabeth R. Simeral Professorship
Established in 1989 by Dr. Simeral and his wife, Betty
- Richard Kent, professor of art history
Jennie Brown Cook and Betsy Hess Cook Professorship of Art
Established in 1998 through a generous pledge by J. P. Cook, Jr., Class of 1974
- Nancy Kurland, professor of organization studies
Clair R. McCollough Professor of Business Administration
Created by a bequest from Clair R. McCollough
- Christina Weaver, professor of mathematics
Carmie L. and Beatrice J. Creitz Professorship of Mathematics
Created in 1985 by Carmie and Beatrice Creitz
- Eiman Zein-Elabdin, professor of economics
Sigmund M. and Mary B. Hyman Professor of Economics
Originally established in 1978 as the Sigmund M. and Mary Hyman Endowment Fund for Gifted Children
- Mary Ann Levine, professor of anthropology
Lewis Audenreid Professor of History and Archaeology
An 1874 bequest of Lewis Audenreid to endow a professorship of history and archeology

Math with Meaning: F&M Students Combat Food Insecurity
Two F&M seniors turned a passion for math into meaningful solutions for the Power Packs Project, a nonprofit combating food insecurity in Lancaster, Lebanon and York counties.
